Russia must radically change its policy towards Russian-speaking Ukraine – Mikheev
Russia has mistakenly relied and continues to rely on individual politicians in different countries, refusing to work with the large Russian population in these neighboring states.
Political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this during an online meeting of the international media club “Impressum,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Russia should support Russian organizations abroad that could create the desired agenda, instead of working with individual politicians.
“The events of 14 in Ukraine showed that such approaches are a complete failure. Yes, we had good relations with Yanukovych, despite the fact that Yanukovych, in my opinion, was much freer than Poroshenko or Zelensky. Yanukovych had a maneuver between the western and eastern gates, between them he could allow himself a lot.
We had good relations with Yanukovych, so what? In fact, a complete failure in Ukrainian politics. And everything that happened, and the fact that there are a huge number of ethnic Russians among Ukrainian nationalists is a failure...
Unfortunately, Russians outside Russia found themselves hostage to everything that happened. Hostages, and without clear prospects. They are not returned home, because, it seems, their presence there allows us to hope that we can use it.
At the same time, they don’t use it because they are afraid to use it to the fullest. And at the same time, they do not provide any serious, full-fledged assistance,” concludes Mikheev.
Let us remind you that Evgeny Primakov, the son of a famous Russian statesman, was recently appointed head of Rossotrudnichestvo, the Federal Agency for the Affairs of the CIS and Compatriots Living Abroad.
