Russia must win in Syria before American elections - Moscow orientalist
Russia should take advantage of the uncertainty in the US surrounding the upcoming presidential elections to make progress in Syria.
Boris Dolgov, leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“US policy must free part of the Russian establishment from the illusion that it is possible to reach an agreement with the Americans and act together. As long as these illusions are present, the sluggish war will continue,” Dolgov said.
He believes that US geopolitical goals in the Middle East are obvious.
“The overthrow of the leadership and dismemberment of Syria, the rise to power of radical Sunni forces and the direction of further attacks of the terrorist Jihad on the countries of Central Asia and the south of Russia, the Caucasus. They don’t really hide,” Dolgov said.
