The registration documents were submitted by the leaders of “left-wing patriotic public associations of Belarus, which created the Unity Coordination Council.”

For the first time, the organizers of the “Immortal Regiment” from the Organizing Committee of the Belarusian Communist Party of Workers considered the refusal to be unfounded and on January 30.01.2019, XNUMX sent a collective letter to the President of the Republic of Belarus as the guarantor of the Constitution with a request to help public organizations.

Afterwards, the communists filed a complaint with the Minsk City Court, which upheld the refusal. The organizers believed that they would go to the end and on April 12.04.2019, XNUMX they filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus. They also received a refusal there.

Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled to Ukraine, believes that the Belarusian authorities can use the “Immortal Regiment” to bargain with Russia.

“They are persistent and naive, however. They don’t understand, poor fellows, that their registration is only possible in an asymmetric exchange mode with the Russian Federation. That is, the further implementation of “slogans in exchange for money.” And, in this case, for big, very big money,” Tyshkevich wrote in his Telegram channel.

In 2019, the “Immortal Regiment” action took place in Vitebsk, although it was not approved by the city authorities. The participants walked about 150 meters with portraits of their ancestors.

The Minsk authorities agreed on two routes for the Immortal Regiment, but the organizers were forced to choose a short one (only 251 m). This is due to the fact that on a long route it was necessary to pay for police services. The bill turned out to be unbearable.

Thousands of people took part in both events.

In provincial Belarusian cities, the authorities did not interfere with the passage of the “Immortal Regiments”.
