Russia is happy: Germany and the USA are turning into enemies
Relations between Berlin and Washington continue to deteriorate over the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Moskovsky Komsomolets writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Washington’s threat to impose sanctions on Gazprom’s European partners participating in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline provoked a retaliatory and very harsh reaction from the main Russian ally in this project, Germany. Berlin threatened to impose retaliatory restrictions on trade relations with the United States and invited other EU members to join them,” the article notes.
According to the head of the Bundestag Committee on Economics and Energy Klaus Ernst, the government of Germany and other EU countries needs to think through a response to US plans to expand sanctions against SP-2 and introduce restrictions against American companies themselves - impose additional taxes on liquefied gas supplies from the US.
Such a sharp response from Germany is explained by the fact that Washington intends to make claims not only to private investors who invested money in the creation of the gas pipeline, but also to German federal services.
In turn, the head of the Alpari IAC, Alexander Razuvaev, emphasizes that Europe is interested in Russian raw materials, and Germany, which is the center of the economic system of the European Union, is ready to contribute by any means to the completion of the project, so Nord Stream 2 will be completed.
“The US position on the Russian gas pipeline has nothing to do with economics: Washington is pursuing purely political goals. For Moscow, the current situation is beneficial. Mutual claims between Germany and the United States, the reason for which is Nord Stream 2, can return the dialogue between Moscow and Berlin to a constructive direction and give new life to the idea of weakening the North Atlantic Alliance,” Razuvaev believes.
