Russia nearly sank a British destroyer that invaded its territorial waters
Russian border guards, with the support of the Black Sea Fleet and aviation, forced the British destroyer D35 Dragon to leave Russian territorial waters.
Deputy Director of the FSB Vladimir Kulishov stated this in an interview with journalists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the incident occurred in October last year off the coast of Crimea, but its details were not disclosed. FSB border guards contacted the British ship, but its captain reported poor signal reception. More convincing were the calls of Russian warplanes and ships, which moved towards the destroyer, after which it left the territorial waters of the Russian Federation.
As a military expert, reserve captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev told PolitNavigator, such an incident is not news for Russian sailors, but its danger is that such behavior of “Western partners” does not become systematic.
“The danger lies precisely in preventing precedents from becoming the norm. Similar cases have happened before. Let's say, last year there was a fact, somewhat similar, when an American ship tried to pass where it was not allowed, provoking us to retaliate, other cases took place. For example, the well-known case with the destroyer “Caron” and the cruiser “Yorktown”, when “Selfless” and SKR-6 drove American ships out of our waters near the Crimean coast.
The danger is not that they are trying to test our weaknesses - this can be predicted and this has happened before, but that we, by stopping this kind of action, let them understand that there is no need to turn this into a system, they do not need us make you nervous,” Gorbachev said.
