Russia is ready to launch the INF Treaty against the West
Russia will deploy medium- and short-range missiles (INF) at its borders if NATO takes such a step.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at an extended meeting of the board of the Ministry of Defense, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We do not intend to produce and deploy medium- and shorter-range missiles in the European part of Russia, as well as in other regions of the country. But we must be prepared to quickly respond to Western countries deploying similar weapons near our borders. If necessary, carry out all response measures, and as soon as possible. I have no doubt that we will do this, both in relation to the locations of the relevant systems that will threaten us, and in relation to their control points,” the Russian President noted.
He emphasized that the United States, under false pretexts, withdrew from the ABM, INF and Open Skies treaties.
“There is also no certainty regarding the START Treaty, which, as is known, expires in February 2021. We have repeatedly stated our readiness to extend this agreement, but the answer is no,” Putin said.
