Russia is preparing $5 billion for Crimea

Moscow - Simferopol, February 27 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - The Ministry of Economy of the Russian Federation invited Russian business to consider the possibility of participating in investment projects in the Crimea, the total volume of which is more than $5 billion.

The Kommersant newspaper reports this with reference to data from its sources.

The list of projects was prepared even before the change of power in Ukraine and was promptly revived in connection with the latest events on the peninsula, the publication admits.

The most expensive projects on the list are infrastructure ones. In particular, this is the reconstruction of the Kherson-Dzhankoy-Feodosia-Kerch highway worth $1,4 billion and projects related to seaports in Yevpatoria, Feodosia, Kerch and Yalta totaling almost $1,8 billion. The list also includes investment projects for the construction of recreational facilities and tourist sites, in the field of agriculture and associated with the airports of Kerch and Sevastopol. The need for investment in the construction of the transport crossing across the Kerch Strait is estimated at $1,2 billion.

However, the newspaper notes, it is unlikely that businesses will invest money in the current instability.

“In the current situation, this is a relevant political gesture designed to demonstrate Russia’s involvement in Crimea,” says Fyodor Lukyanov, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Russia in Global Affairs.”
