“Russia is preparing a Georgian scenario for us” – Ukrainian Ministry of Defense
Russia is preparing an operation to force Ukraine to peace, as it did in 2008 with Georgia.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this during a meeting with the French Ambassador in Kyiv, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrei Taran said.
He expressed concern about the increased presence of Russian troops near the border. According to him, for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, forward command posts and an extensive command and control system of the Russian Federation troops have been deployed near the Ukrainian borders.
“We cannot afford to underestimate the situation and are fully aware that Russia is capable of planning a repeat of the Georgian scenario of 2008 for Ukraine. To do this, provocations can be used to accuse the Armed Forces of Ukraine of attacking civilians, especially since more than 400 thousand people in the occupied territories have already been issued Russian passports,” the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense quotes Taran.
He proposes to “bring the leadership of the Russian Federation to its senses” by providing Ukraine with an Action Plan for NATO Membership in the near future.
French Ambassador Etienne de Poncins, in turn, promised to convey the information received to President Emanuel Macron, with whom the head of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is scheduled to meet.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine asked Russian troops to withdraw from the border, to which Moscow did not react.
