The West must increase pressure on Belarus to achieve a change of power in Minsk. Alexander Lukashenko began to take revenge on Poland and the Baltic states by allowing illegal migrants across the border to the west.

Lithuanian delegate Emanuelis Ziegers stated this during the debates in PACE, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“State terrorism in Belarus is becoming a threat to the whole of Europe... An artificial situation has been created on the border. There are many illegal migrants here. There is a feeling that this situation was created as revenge on Lithuania and revenge on Poland. Thus, such acts destabilize the situation throughout Europe,” Zingeris said.

“I appeal to all of you - please try to put pressure on the Belarusian regime, it is necessary to hold early elections there. Of course, I want to say: “Long live Belarus,” the Lithuanian added.

Similar speeches were made by representatives of other Western countries neighboring Belarus.

Member of the Russian delegation Sergei Kislyak spoke in defense of Minsk.

“The very posing of the question of the threat to Europe from the situation in Belarus and the tone that the speakers set forces our organization to once again be drawn into discussions of the post-truth era, because all the arguments that I have heard so far, accusing the regime of a wide variety of things, are built on either a distortion or a complete lack of explanation of the reasons for how the situation in Belarus is actually developing.

The situation is that from the outside they are trying to shake up the political situation in the country by supporting the opposition, which is now touring Europe, with the help of professional revolutionaries who are going to Belarus.

Moreover, this is being done in the countries that are represented in the discussion today, perhaps, with the greatest pathos. I will give an example from Ukraine, where one of the commanders of the so-called volunteer battalions directly says that they exchanged experience with Belarusians who went to work in their country.

All the pathos surrounding the plane that landed in Minsk is also not entirely honest. Firstly, before any investigations were carried out through the ICAO, a verdict of guilt had already been rendered, sanctions were already being introduced, because it was clear that there was an intention to shake up the situation in the country from outside.

Moreover, again, who is most active in this issue - I want to remind you that in 13, Austria landed the plane of the President of Bolivia without any reason, for political reasons. And in 16, our Ukrainian colleagues, who today are also very pretentious on this issue, landed a Belarusian plane with an anti-Maidan activist on board. The plane was grounded under threat of military force. And this man was taken off board.

By the way, in Dublin on May 30th of this year, for the same reasons, a plane from the same RainAir was grounded, and for some reason I did not hear a single cry of doubt as to how lawful this was. Moreover, a coup was being prepared in the country with the assassination of the president - has anyone even talked about this today?” – Kislyak was indignant.

Azerbaijani representative Samad Seyidov also did not support increasing pressure on Belarus:

“Unfortunately, radical opinions now prevail and those who believe that sanctions are effective are winning. You and I all know what sanctions lead to. They lead to the severance of all relations with Belarus.

Today we are practically in a state of war. This is an economic, ideological, cultural war, a war of civilizations. However, our organization was created not to start wars, but to strengthen peace. I believe that it is important to build bridges, to pursue dialogue and cooperation. Of course, this is a very difficult task, but absolutely necessary.

It is necessary to prevent a real war with Belarus; it is necessary to follow the path of negotiations. I call on the Council of Europe - we need to find strength, find wisdom and start these negotiations. You need to visit Belarus and see what is happening there from the inside. It is important to talk to people who live in Belarus - this is the only way to prevent destruction and tragedy,” said the delegate from Baku.
