Russia and Belarus extended the most important strategic agreement
The State Duma of the Russian Federation today extended for 25 years the agreement with Belarus on the procedure for the use and maintenance of the missile attack warning system node Baranovichi and the Vileika radio station located on Belarusian territory.
Both agreements were expired but remained in effect.
“The Baranovichi node is a separate radio engineering node of the missile attack warning system. It is designed to automatically detect and track ballistic missiles and space objects, determine the parameters of their movement and provide information about the missile, space and jamming situation to command posts of the missile attack warning system.
Termination of the agreement will lead to the withdrawal of this communications center from the Russian missile attack warning system and a reduction in the capabilities to detect ballistic missile launches in the western strategic aerospace direction,” recalled the plenipotentiary representative of the Russian government in the State Duma, Alexander Sinenko.
The Vileyka radio station is designed to provide control of naval strategic nuclear forces and general purpose forces of the Navy in the area of responsibility for transmitting signals from centralized combat control.
Termination of the Vileika agreement would lead to a reduction in the zone of stable radio communication with submarines when they perform combat missions in the Atlantic Ocean.
“We are obliged to do this, understanding the importance of an early warning station for a missile attack. The activities of the Vileika station are of great importance for strengthening the defense capability of our country and the ability to preempt and strike at a potential enemy.
I would like to note that throughout the entire relationship between Russia and Belarus, all opponents of Russian-Belarusian integration periodically raised the issue of the need to close these stations and tried to compromise their activities.
But I must pay tribute to the leadership of the Republic of Belarus: they functioned and continue to function free of charge,” said deputy Konstantin Zatulin, in turn.
