Russia and the EU will discuss today who will pay for the gas consumed by Ukraine
Moscow - Kyiv, May 19 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Today, the head of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Alexander Novak, plans to hold a meeting with the European Commissioner for Energy, Günter Oettinger. It will be dedicated to the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine and its transit to Europe.

The minister wants to understand how ready the EU is to help Ukraine, and to find out whether Ukraine is even able to pay for Russian gas.
Ukraine will only receive paid gas, Gazprom head Alexey Miller said the day before. If it happens that it does not make an advance payment for June, the head of the Russian holding clarified, “we will supply as much gas to the border of Russia and Ukraine as Europe should receive.” This could happen as early as June 3.
“Ukraine is bankrupt,” Miller diagnoses. “She can’t pay for gas today.” She pays neither this price nor another, neither with discounts nor without discounts. And here we must understand that the situation is only getting worse month by month. We hear a lot that the EU, IMF and US will provide assistance. It seems that Ukraine received the first tranche. But we still haven’t seen payments for gas, repayment of debt.”
Ukraine has not paid in full for gas supplies from Russia for several months now. The total debt, according to Russian estimates, has already amounted to more than $3,5 billion.
