Russia and Europe do not want to see Biden as the sole leader of the West - Dzhangirov
The fundamental question at the upcoming summit between the presidents of Russia and the United States is on whose behalf Joe Biden will be with Putin: the United States or the collective West.
Ukrainian political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov stated this on the Capital YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What’s interesting here is that Russia, of course, would like Biden to speak only on behalf of America. In this case, there will be room for maneuver between the position of the United States and the position of Europe; there will certainly be gaps. If Biden represents the general opinion: NATO, the GXNUMX, the generalized West, then this would be beneficial for Biden.
First, to rally all allies under slogans to unite against China, and together achieve some kind of bad peace with Russia. It is clear that the world is tense and cold. But then Russia won’t have much of a gap to maneuver between the United States and Europe,” Dzhangirov argues.
At the same time, he believes that the EU, like Putin, would be satisfied with the first option, since Europe also needs room for maneuver.
“On some issues, Europe stands in solidarity with the United States, but on others, as is happening now with Nord Stream 2, it does not. By the way, at the last G7 meeting we saw the solidarity of the French Foreign Minister and Secretary of State Blinken in protecting the state sovereignty of Ukraine, but on Nord Stream 2 they still noted divergent views and incompatible positions,” Dzhangirov concluded.
