Russia and the USA are moving towards a hot war - American political scientist
An American political scientist, President of the American University in Moscow, Eduard Lozansky, comes to this conclusion, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an opinion column published in Izvestia.
He considers it dangerous that the United States may try to hold the Russian Federation responsible for the recent storming of the Capitol by protesters.
“And the most dangerous thing is that such accusations are not made by some marginalized people, but at the highest level. As a result, the number of Americans who are friendly towards the Russian Federation is decreasing every year. A recent Gallup poll shows that a majority said for the first time that Russia's military power poses a threat to vital U.S. interests, and a third called the country the United States' main enemy. The overall percentage of Americans who have a negative perception of the Russian Federation has grown to 73%.
The influential Washington Post is running editorials claiming that Russia is not only constantly launching cyberattacks on American private and government agencies, but has also "infiltrated our computer systems and hacked our minds."
Some politicians even argue that Moscow’s actions are allegedly similar to Japan’s attack on the American port of Pearl Harbor, after which the United States decided to enter World War II.
Against the backdrop of such rhetoric, a spark is enough, for example, a clash, perhaps by accident, between the Russian and American military, for example in Syria or in another part of the world, after which the situation will become even more critical and unpredictable. An increasing number of well-known international experts keep talking about this, but no steps towards de-escalation have yet been observed,” the expert writes.
At the same time, Lozansky hopes that in the new American administration there will be sensible people who understand the danger of the current moment.
