Russia and the United States agree on a meeting between Putin and Trump in one of the European countries
Russia and the United States are agreeing on the first personal meeting of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in one of the European countries, which could take place before the end of May.
The Kommersant newspaper writes about this, citing its own sources, explaining that official Moscow still hopes to improve relations with the Americans thanks to contacts between top officials, based on the experience of the Cold War, when personal meetings of leaders made it possible to reduce the tension between the two superpowers.

“Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have already communicated on the phone several times, but have not met in person. At the same time, since the change of power in the White House, relations between Moscow and Washington have not improved. At first, verbal attacks against each other became noticeably smaller, but in recent weeks the level of rhetorical confrontation began to resemble times of confrontation,” the newspaper writes.
Trump is due to attend a NATO summit at the end of May, one of the main topics of which will be relations with Russia. The teams of the two leaders will apparently now be busy preparing a specific agenda.
Earlier, the head of the Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs, Anna Gopko, stated that Ukrainian diplomacy has thrown all its efforts into organizing a meeting between Petro Poroshenko and Donald Trump before the new American president meets Vladimir Putin.
“It is very important that Poroshenko meet with Trump before the meeting of the head of the White House with Putin. It all depends on how much we are able to use all communication channels in order to organize such a meeting,” said Gopko.
