Russia saved Ukraine from subsidized Donbass and Crimea – economist
Crimea and Donbass have always been subsidized, and having lost them, Ukraine got rid of the burden of corruption money that was stolen through these regions.
The director of the Institute for the Transformation of Society, economist Oleg Soskin, said this in a conversation on the Newsone TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Crimea and that part of Donbass, which today is under Russian occupation, has always been subsidized. But today it is cut off, because Moscow is subsidizing it today. Therefore, a huge pile of money that was stolen and spent incorrectly was withdrawn from Ukraine,” Soskin argues, without explaining how his industrial Donetsk ended up in the “subsidized” category.
It should be noted that in 2013, industrial enterprises of Donbass produced products worth 240 billion hryvnia ($28,6 billion), which amounted to about 15% of Ukraine’s GDP. The region accounted for about $17 billion a year in export earnings, or a quarter of all Ukrainian exports.
