Russia cleverly bypasses the West along the Northern Sea Route – Khusnullin
Russia is developing logistics along the Northern Sea Route due to restrictions imposed on it by Western countries in other regions. For this purpose, several new icebreakers will be built in the near future, but already the volume of cargo transportation along this route has surpassed the indicators of the Soviet period.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin stated this at the World Youth Festival, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the Soviet Union, 7 million tons of cargo traveled along the Northern Sea Route. Last year we transported 38 million tons, the goal is to reach 60 million in the coming years, and then reach 100. In order to develop this, we need to build at least five large nuclear icebreakers. We have money for this, now we are building them...
Considering that they are trying to limit us in the southern seas, passage through the Northern Sea Route is strategically significant for us; this is a mega-project for the country. Hence the development of the Murmansk transport hub and the enormous development of all the ports that are located there.
Well, in general, we have a huge amount of natural reserves located along the Northern Sea Route, and only the lack of infrastructure does not allow them to be developed,” Khusnullin said.
