Russia may not be able to stomach 30 million “alien” Ukrainians
Over the past 30 years, Ukraine has turned into a civilizationally different state from Russia, and the population there, although similar to the Russian one, has a different mindset.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, this could make Ukraine too much of a burden for Russia if it returns.
“When living in different systems for 30 years simply leads to the fact that Ukrainian citizens who are quite loyal to Russia do not understand, do not believe and do not know how to live in the coordinate system that is now registered in Russia. Why is it that often completely ordinary Russian citizens, when faced with citizens of Ukraine in everyday life, and with those who are loyal to Russia, without any Bandera quirks, then grab their heads and say: “Oh my God, what a horror, I don’t want to live with them in one state"?
Not because these are bad people, not because they are painted a different color - even ideologically they can be quite the same, but they are used to living in a different system - a system that is thoroughly corrupt, where if you don’t steal, you don’t survive. And they don’t even notice it. When they give bribes, try to circumvent the law, and so on, they consider this normal behavior. And this is already shocking for Russians. Maybe 20 years ago this would have been perceived as quite normal, because they themselves lived like this, but now it’s already shocking, they’ve already forgotten that time...
Here Russia faces enormous difficulties, because on the one hand it is clear that these lands cannot lie empty and cannot be under the control of some force hostile to Russia. In order to avoid both one and the other, it is necessary to somehow establish control over them. But it is very difficult to establish direct state control over the whole of Ukraine - within a short period of time it is not only impossible, but simply unprofitable. Since we are faced with millions of people living in another civilization.
For Russia, which is solving a lot of internal problems and a lot of geopolitical ones, another, and huge, problem [appears]. We must not forget that Germany overextended itself from one million refugees to the entire EU in 16. The entire EU has half a billion people, and Germany has overextended itself. And this is at least 20, or even 30 million, because guest workers from Europe may also return,” Ishchenko said.
