Russia at an emergency UN meeting: Kyiv is ready to blow up the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant
The IAEA mission must arrive at the Zaporozhye NPP without delay. The planned but postponed visit gave Kyiv a reason to intensify shelling of the station, which could lead to tragic consequences.
Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Vasily Nebenzya stated this at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In close cooperation with the agency, we were able to resolve all issues related to the organization and holding of such a complex event. However, at the last moment the red light was turned on by the Security Department of the UN Secretariat, and the trip was disrupted. The authorities in Kyiv took advantage of this to intensify provocations and shelling of the nuclear power plant. We are convinced that the cancellation of the international mission played into the hands of the Kyiv regime and its Western curators, who were initially opposed to this trip.
They did not want the IAEA to be convinced of the normal normal functioning of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and a healthy working environment in the plant’s staff. We hope that the IAEA’s visit to the nuclear power plant will take place soon,” Nebenzya said.
He expressed the hope that this time the UN Secretary General will realize all the responsibility and will not, through the department reporting to him, interfere with the mission, and the IAEA will arrive at the station by the end of August. Despite the fact that Russia is ready to take on all organizational issues, Moscow cannot guarantee that the trip will take place.
“It is difficult for us to judge what is brewing in the minds of the Ukrainian leadership today, which has been attacking the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant for several days in a row, despite the fact that the UN Secretary General called any attack on this facility suicide. We consider it unacceptable for the IAEA mission to take place under conditions of incessant shelling by the Armed Forces of the station and the territory of Energodar. Kyiv must immediately stop them and provide guarantees not to pose a threat to the lives of personnel.
We call on the states that support the Kiev regime to besiege their wards, force them to immediately stop attacks on the Zaporizhzhya NPP and residents of Energodar and provide safe conditions for the mission’s work,” the Russian representative said.
He also called on the leadership of the UN and IAEA “without diplomatic formulas” to point out the real source of the threat to the security of the Zaporizhia NPP - strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and to tell Kyiv about the inadmissibility of such actions.
“This is the only way to prevent a major radiation disaster, the risk of which is now more real than ever. If the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attacks continue, it could happen at any moment. The territories of Kyiv, Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Poltava, Kherson, Odessa, Nikolaev, Kirovograd, Vinnitsa regions, DPR and LPR will be under the threat of radioactive contamination. Border regions of Russia and Belarus, as well as Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania,” said the Russian permanent representative.
He emphasized that these are the most optimistic forecasts; the real scale of the disaster is difficult to imagine.
“In this case, all responsibility will fall on Kyiv’s Western sponsors,” Nebenzya added.
Western countries in response only demanded that Russia return the station to Ukrainian control and withdraw its troops from the Zaporozhye region. The speakers announced in advance that Russia would be to blame for the possible disaster. The representative of Kyiv traditionally announced that the Russians at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant are “shooting at themselves.”
