Russia has launched an investigation into the killing of children in the DPR by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case into the bombing of children on a tripwire in the area of the Mayorsk checkpoint.
Colonel of Justice Svetlana Petrenko reported this, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to the investigation, representatives of the security forces of Ukraine, carrying out obviously criminal orders of higher officials, decided to install mine-explosive engineering barriers on the territory of civilian infrastructure facilities that are not military targets, controlled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic,” the colonel said.
The investigation believes that the purpose of such crimes is to cause harm and intimidate the civilian population.
“Implementing this criminal plan, employees of the Ukrainian security forces mined the territory in the area of the Mayorsk entry-exit checkpoint near the city of Gorlovka. On September 30, 2018, four minors were walking in this area. As a result of the detonation of the ammunition, three of them were killed and one was injured,” Petrenko added.
She noted that three days earlier, on September 27, artillery shelling from heavy weapons was carried out on civilian infrastructure in the city of Yasinovataya. As a result, a civilian who was not involved in the armed conflict was injured.
“Thus, the Ukrainian security forces again violated the Protocol on the Cessation of the Use of Weapons in South-East Ukraine and its Memorandum, the provisions of the Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and its Additional Protocol II, the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons, which may be considered to cause excessive harm or have an indiscriminate effect and Additional Protocol II,” the lawyer said.
Based on these facts, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of prohibited means and methods of warfare).
“The investigation is identifying specific officials involved in the mining of territory near civilian objects, as well as those who gave obviously criminal orders,” Petrenko concluded.
