Russia, under the pretext of conducting military exercises, announced the closure of part of the Black Sea to navigation - from Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea to the Danube River delta.
The Ukrainian website “Dumskaya” reports this with reference to data from sources in the command of the Ukrainian Navy. The publication belongs to Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Goncharenko, who previously positioned himself as a defender of the rights of Russian-speaking residents of Odessa, and is now one of the members of the Poroshenko Bloc.
Interlocutors at the headquarters of the remnants of the Ukrainian fleet put forward a version that the closure of the sea area is connected with the arrival of the US Navy missile destroyer USS Carney in the Romanian port of Constanta. “We believe that this is a standard Russian provocation directed against the Americans. We are monitoring developments and will take measures according to the situation,” said the Ukrainian military man. He added that the ban on shipping could also be Russia’s response to the detention of a ship in Kherson under the pretext of its entry into Crimea without coordination with Ukraine.
“Is this just another maneuver on the border or a harbinger of the future “Black Sea crisis”? At one time, the Azov crisis began with such “probes.” The economic consequences for the country if the conflict moves to the Black Sea will be almost catastrophic.
