Russia began the restoration of Mariupol. People are returning to the city
In total, more than two thousand residential buildings were damaged and destroyed in Mariupol.
A State Duma deputy, a native of Mariupol, Dmitry Sablin, who is one of the curators of the city’s restoration, told Komsomolskaya Pravda about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, at the time the fighting began, 504 thousand people lived in Mariupol, now there are 212 thousand.
“There are 2778 houses in Mariupol, 2165 were damaged and destroyed. What decision was made by the commissions? Houses hit by artillery or tanks will be demolished. Restoration is 50-60% of their cost, and all the houses are old, over 50 years old - they were designed for exactly this service life. There’s no point in rebuilding and demolishing it in ten years anyway,” says Sablin.
The publication’s journalist was also shown a town under construction for three thousand people, which, according to the politician, will be a maneuverable fund. In addition, surviving hotels, institutes, and office buildings are being prepared for hostels.
The State Duma deputy added that people began to return to the city.
“Even people from Europe come home and stay. Water was provided almost everywhere, even reaching the 9th floor. We will soon power everyone with light, from the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. The problem is only with the Left Bank region. Transformers there, each weighing 250 tons, were damaged. But it’s okay, we’ll bring it by sea. The port is already operating,” Sablin said.
