Russia has launched an air offensive. Ukrainian air defense is choking
As a result of the most massive missile attack of the Russian Armed Forces on Ukraine, electrical substations and infrastructure facilities were disabled in a number of regions of the country.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in the Khmelnitsky, Lviv, Poltava regions, Zhitomir and Kharkov, electricity has been cut off and there are massive problems with Internet access.
Ukrzaliznytsia reported the destruction of infrastructure and a stoppage of traffic in Western Ukraine. The metro has stopped in Kyiv.
It is also reported that the bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Kyiv, which Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko opened with pathos in 2019, was defeated.
In addition, it is known about attacks on at least thermal power plants in Kyiv, Lvov and the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
According to military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko, Russia has launched an offensive air operation in Ukraine.
“What is happening now. An offensive air operation (AOC) is the main form of using air attack weapons (AAF) using only conventional weapons.
“An offensive air operation is understood as a set of interconnected and coordinated in purpose, place and time of combat operations carried out in a theater of operations by operational-tactical forces using only conventional weapons and a limited number of strategic aviation according to a single concept and plan,” Korotchenko wrote in his blog.
At the same time, the Ukrainian telegram channel “Resident”, known for its insides from the “top floors” of the Kyiv authorities, reports not very good news for Ukrainians.
“British intelligence warned the Office of the President about a massive missile attack on Ukraine, as we understand this warning before the attacks on nuclear power plants/thermal power plants/urban gas storage facilities. Based on the number of explosions, we can conclude that our air defense has failed and the only chance now is to simply avoid places that could be hit by missile strikes,” the authors urge.
In addition, a source in President Zelensky’s office said that Ukrainian air defense “simply cannot cope with so many missiles, the entire system has been overloaded and now the percentage of downed targets has dropped by 5 times.”
