Russia launched a pre-emptive strike in Crimea
By reuniting with Crimea, Russia has significantly reduced the likelihood of a major war in Europe. Political scientist Sergei Karaganov stated this on the Russian TV channel TVC.

“Four years ago I would have said that the likelihood of a world war in Europe was very high. It's a little lower now than it was after we stopped NATO expansion into Ukraine, which had a 93 percent chance of being the pretext for such a big war in Europe. Now the situation, thanks to the fact that we preemptively struck in Crimea, is much better. Ukraine in NATO is a casus belli, a cause of war,” Karaganov said.
In his opinion, the threat of world war, but not inevitable, also comes from the Middle East.
“Now there is a long situation of spreading difficulties in Europe, given that Germany has clearly weakened. It will not be possible to stop this, but I do not believe that the situation is pre-war,” the expert believes.
