Russia sent a note of protest over the desecration of a monument to Soviet soldiers in Bulgaria
The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that another act of vandalism against a monument to Soviet soldiers in Bulgaria is connected with the internal political struggle in this country. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told reporters today.
Let us recall that on the night of June 30, an inscription appeared on the monument to the Soviet army in Sofia accusing the Bulgarian Communist Party of terrorism.

“The format, if this word can be applied to desecration, indicates the illegal nature of the act, the low moral and cultural level of those people who did it. We believe that internal political disagreements in an EU and NATO member country should be the subject of public debate, not acts of hooliganism. If there is a desire to come out with some banners, defend the rights of one party and criticize another, there are legal means for this, but not monuments,” Zakharova said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The Russian Embassy in Sofia sent a note to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry demanding a thorough investigation of the incident, bringing the perpetrators to justice and taking measures to put the memorial in order.
“We expect that the official authorities of Bulgaria will take measures to prevent further acts of vandalism against monuments of the common history of Russia and Bulgaria,” Zakharova said.
This is not the first act of vandalism against the monument in Sofia. In addition, the monument to the Soviet soldier in Plovdiv, known as “Alyosha,” was repeatedly attacked by vandals.
