Russia has learned to make aircraft carriers
There is a project for a full-fledged Russian aircraft carrier, the construction of which will depend on the position of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“We learned how to make aircraft carriers, although this has never happened in Russia. Even existing aircraft carrier cruisers have always been made in Ukrainian Nikolaev. But when one of the aircraft carrier cruisers was converted into a light aircraft carrier, which became the pride of the navy India, – we have not only restored such experience and competencies, but also developed them.
The project for our new aircraft carrier really exists. It is twice as large as what India has. There is only one question. There is a customer in the person of the Ministry of Defense. And there is the military industry. Military science and industry are completely ready for this project. I’ll make a reservation: if it is approved in the new Armament Program (and it should be approved in the fall). But the main thing here is up to the customer. If the customer, from the point of view of assessing military threats, considers that we need such floating airfields capable of operating in distant theaters of military operations, then such a task will be realized by industry,” Rogozin said.
At the same time, he added that he is a supporter of making mobile and compact weapons that are difficult to detect and that can strike an aggressor from where he is not expecting.
“This also applies to the fleet. The new projects that our shipbuilders are implementing today are “muscular” corvettes and frigates. That is, they have so many weapons that our corvette is pulling at the western frigate, and our frigate is pulling at the large missile cruiser. It seems to me that there is no point now in running after large projects that are easily detected and easily defeated.
But if we are talking about an aircraft carrier, it is not an attack cruiser, it is, first of all, a floating airfield. And here the word belongs to the General Staff, to the plans Ministry of Defence, their vision of the concept of warfare. And, again, a lot still depends on the economic capabilities of the state,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
