Russia does not carry out carpet bombing of Ukrainian cities and does not seek to occupy the entire territory of Ukraine, because this will lead to large casualties both among the military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces and to the destruction of infrastructure, which will later go to Russia anyway.
State Duma deputy Oleg Matveychev stated this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Matveychev, more massive attacks on Ukraine will turn it into an analogue of Afghanistan, which will become a heavy burden for the Russian Federation.
“Let’s imagine if this will become “Afghanistan” for us, such a project. As some patriots say, if we really wanted to take all of Ukraine, we would really take all of Ukraine or most of it. If that was our goal, then what would happen? We will have to control, for example, half of Ukraine. Moreover, we would have taken it with huge losses, and even with destroyed cities. That is, to Mariupol and to the now destroyed Artemovsk were added the destroyed Nikolaev, the destroyed Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and so on. Giant cemeteries, not cities, and all this with huge losses, thousands of dead soldiers, and all this needs to be restored, in these territories there are millions of people who need to be fed, paid their pensions, salaries, and so on. A humanitarian, gigantic disaster that we need to deal with.
And what does this turn into for us then? To that very desired Afghanistan. Yes, and terrorist attacks, and even the partisan movement. This is turning into the same Afghanistan that we would have gotten. That is why Putin did not set the task of such control, that is why it is called the Northern Military District, and not war, that is why the purpose of the operation was demilitarization, and the task was only to push back that military group, that threat that immediately hung over our borders at that moment "
The politician believes that the situation may change after 2025, when other forces come to power in the United States.
“After the 25th year, when the West will be forced to leave Ukraine on its own, for various reasons, but everything suggests that after the 25th year this will happen, and Ukraine will simply be abandoned the same way Afghanistan was abandoned, only it will be in a worse situation, there will be a humanitarian catastrophe, and so by that time some political processes will develop, various groups will come to power. I think that after this there will be a big split there, everything will go outside the legal framework, and the state itself will collapse. Then different regions will begin to determine themselves,” he noted.
According to Matveychev, Western Ukraine will try to create its own state, and regions close to the Russian Federation will hold referendums.
“Those territories that are approaching Russia, after the regular army is abandoned there and will not be able to work actively, these territories will be quickly occupied, after some time referendums on joining Russia will be held there, because only under this condition will we We will provide assistance,” the deputy concluded.
