Russia should not send ground troops into Syria - CSTO Secretary General
In Syria, there is no need to use both the ground forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the ground forces of Russia. CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha stated this at a press conference in Moscow.

“It would be inappropriate to send a Russian military contingent there. I don't think we should interfere with the ground operation. That's what the Syrian armed forces are for. We can help them, which is what we do, but nothing more. It makes no sense to form some kind of group of collective force and send it there to fight terrorism. The question has never been raised this way and is unlikely to be raised,” Bordyuzha said.
On September 30, 2015, Russia, at the request of President Bashar al-Assad, began conducting targeted airstrikes in Syria against targets of terrorist groups - the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra.
