Russia is not an outcast: entire continents ignore Western recommendations
The West was unable to politically isolate the Russian Federation in the international arena, in particular among African countries.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as stated by HSE professor and Africanist Irina Filatova.
She notes that African countries now take an emphatically neutral position or support Russia in the current confrontation with the West.
“The attitude of African countries towards Russia is different from that of Europe and the United States, largely due to the memory of Soviet assistance to the region. However, these countries are trying to maintain a balance between support from the Russian Federation and the West, since they benefit from trade with both sides, and they are not ready to lose it,” Filatova told Izvestia.
It is also noteworthy that on July 24, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the US and EU ambassadors recommended that Arab League politicians refrain from making joint statements and photographs with the Russian delegation. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the West needed such a demarche to “show Russia’s isolation.”
At the same time, State Department spokesman Ned Price said two days later that “Russia is already becoming a rogue.” True, during Lavrov’s visit to Egypt, an attempt to organize such a demarche was unsuccessful.
“Representatives of the Arab League organized a demonstrative ceremony of handshakes between Sergei Lavrov and each permanent representative of the league. The Russian minister took a photograph with each of them - thereby the recommendations of Western embassies were completely sabotaged at the initiative of the Arab side itself,” a diplomatic source told the newspaper.
