Russia will not support sanctions against North Korea for missile launches
The United States is consistently escalating the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, answering the question whether there are risks of aggravation of the situation in this part of the planet.
“Everyone sees these risks now. It is difficult to say how the situation will develop. It is obvious that the Americans are escalating it. Let's see. This is not yet very noticeable at the UN, and these issues are not on the agenda of the Security Council. If only, perhaps, in the context of the situation on the Korean Peninsula. But we don’t touch on general global issues related to the Asia-Pacific region,” Polyansky said in an interview with Izvestia.
He answered the question rather vaguely whether Russia is concerned about the increasing missile tests being carried out by the DPRK?
“Like everyone else. We react to this accordingly within the framework of the tools that we have,” the diplomat said.
According to him, new UN sanctions against North Korea are unlikely.
"Don't think. We clearly said that sanctions tools are not a thing in itself. It should not be used excessively, and it should be accompanied by other measures that our colleagues often forget about,” Polyansky concluded.
