The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, said the former editor-in-chief of the magazine Ogonyok Vitaly Korotich, who lived and taught in the USA for a long time.
He was asked why there was no serious progress after the Geneva meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States.
“Biden is surrounded by a huge number of people who will not let him rock the boat. And Putin would like changes, but, you know, what’s the matter, the Americans want to give instructions, not negotiate. They need someone like Zelensky, to whom they can give instructions, who carries out the instructions. Putin will never agree to this, and there is no way he will become such a partner. Nobody except Putin and Xi Jinping, perhaps, today dares to talk with the Americans on approximately equal terms,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
According to him, Russian-American relations allvary every time.
“But they can’t change quickly. The United States does not want to be on an equal footing with us at the moment. Once upon a time, the Americans came to terms with this, and they were on equal terms with the Soviet Union. Now Americans cannot afford to join the fact that many people in the world are already saying that the United States is no longer the first power. But the Americans themselves do not agree with this. And we don’t want to be spoken to from a position of strength,” Korotich summarized.
