The Russian initiative to use UN peacekeepers to protect the OSCE mission in Donbass is not limited to their deployment only on the contact line. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“The OSCE has a mandate, according to which they move along both lines of contact in agreement with the parties. They visit the territory of the declared republics of Donetsk and Lugansk up to the border with Russia. They are there up to 20 times a week. Our proposal provides for security wherever they patrol,” Lavrov said.

He also stated that the national composition of the contingent, in accordance with UN practice, will be determined by the parties to the conflict - Kyiv, Donetsk and Lugansk.
