Russia will not allow NATO into the Caucasus - prominent Israeli diplomat
Russia does not openly take the side of Azerbaijan or Armenia in the Karabakh conflict, because this could push either side into the “embraces” of the West. Russia cannot allow such a scenario and is ready for any action.
This was stated on the Internet channel Iton TV by the former Israeli Ambassador to Russia Zvi Magen, who previously worked for a long time in the intelligence department of the Israeli General Staff, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The diplomat emphasizes that the conflict in Karabakh only at first glance looks like a local one, but in fact there is a tangle of interests tied up there.
“Don’t forget the invisible, but presence of the West in this tangle. Because the whole process is moving forward very carefully due to the fact that if Putin “abandons” Armenia, it will fall into the arms of the West, and this cannot be allowed. The same can be said for Azerbaijan. I'm not even talking about Turkey and others.
This entire region is one way or another potentially directed towards the west. I remind you of what happened in Georgia and Russia’s military campaign in the “eighth” year, which ended with the seizure of territory due to the fact that there was an intention, it exists to this day - Georgia’s intention to join NATO, the West. Russia is ready for almost anything – conflict and so on.
The same picture is happening with Ukraine. Therefore, while resolving this supposedly local conflict, Russia has before its eyes precisely this possible development of events, which it does not want to allow and, in my opinion, will not allow,” Magen said.
Thank you!
