The head of the Aviation Safety Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Sergei Baynetov, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.
At the same time, he believes that the operation of the Tu-154 will continue in the future.
“Why decommission an aircraft that has proven itself well? The planes that operate the flights are technically ready. Repair work is being carried out according to schedule. I think that even after this incident, this aircraft fleet will be in operation,” Baynetov said.
The first time the Tu-154 was decommissioned was raised in 2011 by then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Then, in Surgut, a Tu-154B-2 with tail number RA-85588 of the Kogalymavia airline burned down on the airfield. And although the evacuation of passengers from the burning airliner began in a timely manner, three people could not be saved.
Tu-154 (according to NATO codification: Careless - “Careless”, in the slang of Soviet pilots - “Big Carcass”) is a three-engine jet passenger aircraft, designed for 152-180 passengers, developed in the 1960s in the USSR in an experimental design bureau " Tupolev."
By the end of the 154th century, the airliner became obsolete, and Tu-737 users began to replace it with more modern analogues: Boeing 320 of later modifications and Airbus A154. Tu-XNUMXs are now operated mainly in the CIS countries.
In February 2013, serial production of the Tu-154 was discontinued.
