Russia will not give in and will not allow the loss of Belarus
Belarus has strong pro-Russian sentiment and is important for Russian defense, so the Kremlin could decide to annex the country if there is unrest during the elections.
Political scientist Daniil Bogatyrev stated this on the InterVizor channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the Belarusian case, there is a real possibility, in the event of destabilization, of the entry of Russian troops there. There will be no Ukrainian scenario. If troops are sent in, there will be a complete Anschluss. They will greet you with bread and salt. There were polls in Belarus regarding a merger with Russia, and a very large percentage, up to 50%, were in favor of merging into a single state, with a center in Moscow.
We understand that there will not be such resistance there as in Ukraine. Nationalist and Russophobic sentiments are not widespread in Belarus. Belarus, moreover, has incredible strategic importance for Russia.
If you look at the geostrategic line in Eastern Europe, then Russia has three large pieces of territory cutting into hostile pro-NATO territory - Crimea, annexed from Ukraine, Belarus, where Russian radar systems are located, and Kaliningrad. If one of these “teeth” falls out, you yourself understand what will happen - NATO tanks near Smolensk. Who in the Kremlin needs this?
And if there is destabilization in Belarus, there is a high probability that the Kremlin will simply decide to annex it,” says Daniil Bogatyrev.
