Russia will appeal to the UN, and if it doesn’t help, it will send troops to Ukraine – Churkin
Moscow - Kyiv, April 25 (Navigator - Mikhail Stamm) - If the violence in south-eastern Ukraine does not stop, Russia will convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, said permanent representative Vitaly Churkin. And if it doesn’t help, the Russian Federation will send in troops.

Churkin noted that the Security Council is split on its attitude to the situation in Ukraine and one should not expect any serious actions from it in terms of resolving the conflict in the South-East. Nevertheless, according to the diplomat, the importance of the organization should not be underestimated. “Very often the UN Security Council manages to find a consensus solution. Many people are applying for sanctions from the UN Security Council. The legitimacy of the Security Council in the eyes of the international community remains very high,” he said.
Churkin also noted that in the event of the worst development of events in the South-East of Ukraine, Russia will remember the permission of the Federation Council to use the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. He recalled that the Federation Council issued a mandate to the President of the Russian Federation to use armed forces on the territory of Ukraine. “This opportunity is always in our hands. But, of course, I wouldn’t want to,” he added.
