Russia refused to resume negotiations with the United States on New START
As long as the United States sets the goal of defeating Russia, negotiations between Moscow and Washington on strategic security issues are impossible.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that this was stated by the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, answering a corresponding question.
“Currently, the prerequisites for restoring the Russian-American dialogue on issues of strategic stability are not visible,” the diplomat said in an interview with Izvestia.
In turn, the publication drew attention to the fact that the US authorities consider the suspension of Russia’s participation in the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START) to be legally invalid.
In this regard, he was asked how realistic it is to restore the New START Treaty in its current version, and what steps Washington should take to revive the dialogue on this agreement.
“In short, to resume the New START dialogue, it is necessary for Washington to abandon its hostile policy towards Russia. In conditions when the United States directly sets the collective West the task of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on our country, “business as usual” in matters of strategic importance is completely impossible,” Ulyanov concluded.
