Russia is responsible with its own conscience for the independence of Transnistria - expert

Transnistria can no longer be annexed to Moldova, because the unrecognized republic has been developing “completely independently and along a separate vector” for more than 25 years.

Political scientist Alexey Martynov stated this on the Vesti FM radio station, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“If Moldova is located in the Romanian space, then Pridnestrovie has always been oriented toward greater Russia, of which they still consider themselves a part. It is impossible today to take and abolish Transnistria by force and administratively. To say: now this is again part of Moldova,” Martynov stated.

He recalled that 500 thousand people live in Pridnestrovie, more than half of whom have Russian citizenship.

“Not very educated people, not burdened with conscience and decency, can talk frivolously about the annexation of Transnistria.

Whether we like it or not, our historical mission is to bear responsibility for all the peoples who live in the post-Soviet space. You can’t look at this with monarchist eyes,” Martynov said.
