“The implementation of these promising projects will help provide Japanese consumers with additional energy resources via the shortest routes and affordable prices,” Vladimir Putin said following negotiations with Abe.
He recalled that Russia today provides 8% of liquefied natural gas supplies to Japan. Japan is taking part in the development of the Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 fields, as well as in the construction of an LNG plant in Yamal.
“Russia is ready to assist Japan in restoring the Fokushima nuclear power plant and offers the most modern technologies for cleaning contaminated soil and processing radioactive waste,” Putin said.
In addition to this, according to the Russian president, 80 priority projects will be developed. Their financial support will be provided by the New Russian-Japanese Investment Fund worth $1 billion.
He also commented on the initiative to conclude a peace treaty between Russia and Japan, with which Abe arrived in Moscow.
“The conclusion of a peace treaty must meet the strategic interests of both Russia and Japan, and be accepted by the people of both countries,” Putin said.
