Russia stopped playing giveaway with the USA
The West tried to tear Ukraine away from Russia, pitting them against each other, to which Moscow responded by reunifying with Crimea and supporting Donbass.
Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
According to him, almost the entire American political elite is committed to fighting Russia, and the United States will not declare a real war on the Russian Federation, although it is already waging an economic and political war against the Russian Federation.
“And any war has a goal. The goal of this war is, at a minimum, a change in Russian foreign policy, the retreat of our country in key areas - such as Syria, Ukraine, the Middle East, Nord Stream 2, plus a general weakening of Russia’s position in the post-Soviet space. And the maximum task is one or another form of “regime change”, in which Russia will become controlled, obedient and recognize American hegemony, renouncing its sovereignty and independent development,” the senator noted.
The politician emphasized that what is happening today around Ukraine has become only the highest point of the confrontation with the West, recalling that before that there was Putin’s speech in Munich, and then the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
“Don’t be mistaken: it all started long before the events in Ukraine. What happened in Ukraine and around Ukraine was only the highest point of the confrontation. Then the West, through an illegal change of power in Kyiv, tried to fulfill its long-standing goal: to tear Ukraine away from Russia, to pit them against each other. Russia responded by reunifying Crimea and supporting Donbass. A new phase of the crisis has begun. So we started playing our own game on the global chessboard, in my opinion, after Putin’s Munich speech. This is its historical significance. We stopped playing giveaway games with the United States, and then they switched to a policy of direct pressure on Russia, trying to force us to return to such a game,” Pushkov said.
