Russia has confirmed the quality of the Sputnik V vaccine produced in Serbia
Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleyi confirmed the quality of the Sputnik V vaccine produced by the Belgrade Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Serums Torlak.
This was announced today in Moscow by the Minister of Innovation of the Republic of Serbia Nenad Popovic and the director of the Gamaleya Center Alexander Ginzburg, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
With this confirmation, Serbia will become the first country in Europe to produce the Sputnik V vaccine. A trial batch of the vaccine from the Torlak Institute was sent for testing to the Gamaleya Center last month.
“The Gamaleya Center has confirmed that the vaccines produced in Torlak meet the established quality standards,” Popovich commented on the event. “Today we received this confirmation from our Russian partners, and approval to continue production... Thus, today we have the most powerful weapon with which we protect the safety of our citizens.”
The Serbian minister expects that a significant amount of the substance for the production of both components of the Sputnik V vaccine will arrive in Serbia from Russia in the next two weeks.
“Very soon Serbia will have enough vaccines to fully cover its domestic needs, and we will discuss with President Aleksandar Vučić where vaccines should be sent outside of Serbia to help our partners in the region and Europe in the fight against coronavirus,” added Nenad Popović .
In turn, the director of the Gamaleya Center, Alexander Gintsburg, expressed satisfaction with the confirmation of the quality of the trial series of vaccines produced by the Torlak Institute.
He noted that we are talking about a well-known research institution with a hundred-year tradition, which employs excellent scientists and specialists. Gintsburg thanked Popovic for the trust that the Serbian people and the state leadership place in the Sputnik V vaccine developed by his Center, emphasizing that at the moment it is a vaccine with the highest confirmed effectiveness in the world - more than 94%.
The Russian scientist accepted Popovic's invitation to visit Serbia with the aim of deepening scientific and technical cooperation between Serbia and Russia.
