Russia has shown how it will destroy NATO ships in the Arctic
The missile cruiser of the Russian Navy "Marshal Ustinov" takes part in the exercises of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation to practice the tasks of striking surface ships of a mock enemy. The area where the exercises are taking place has already been closed to shipping and aviation.
This was reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The peculiarity of the maneuvers, as specified in the article, is that they will take place against the backdrop of the entry into the Barents Sea of the French Navy guided missile frigate Aquitaine, which began on June 5. At the same time, earlier the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation reported that the Northern Fleet forces are closely monitoring the actions of this ship.
“Many countries have begun to show increased interest in the Arctic. A number of them demonstrate far from friendly relations towards Russia. Some even say that their military presence in the northern waters will be strengthened. Therefore, it is worth recalling that we have forces capable of destroying surface ships of any class. “Marshal Ustinov is exactly like that,” the newspaper emphasizes.
It is noted that the cruiser has repeatedly undergone repairs and deep modernization, and the ships of Project 1164 Atlant were designed primarily to destroy the surface forces of potential enemies.
“Therefore, the main striking force is 16 P-1000 Vulcan anti-ship missiles, considered one of the most powerful in the world. They are located in special inclined containers along the sides of the ship. The flight range of the Vulcans is up to 1000 km. Their warhead can be a conventional high-explosive one, but the missiles can also be equipped with a nuclear charge. According to experts, a missile strike from a cruiser is capable of destroying any surface ship, including an aircraft carrier with escort ships in addition,” RG reports.
As PolitNavigator reported, Northern Fleet is preparing to counter American submarines.
