Russia has shown that it can come from the other side
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, without calling the LPR and DPR “unrecognized” or “self-proclaimed” republics in a telephone conversation, gave a signal to Ukraine and the West that the situation could no longer continue on its current course.

Political observer Armen Gasparyan stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator. He noted that there has been no exchange of prisoners of war for more than a year and the situation is not developing at all. Therefore, Russia is forced to exert diplomatic measures of influence.
“This is a very important hint to both Ukraine and the West regarding the process that is taking place. After all, why did it take telephone conversations with the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics? 14 months have already passed since the last prisoner exchange took place. This is provided for in the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, the guarantors of which are France and Germany, and the United States is trying to influence this in some way. But nothing happens. Without Russia's assistance, it is impossible to get this all off the ground, since Ukraine itself is delaying this process.
The fact that the republics were designated this way indicates that Russia is beginning to exert diplomatic influence on this situation. In this way, a very clear signal is given to the world community - dear friends, the situation is extremely unpleasant, it must be resolved, you don’t want to do anything - okay, you can come from the other side,” Gasparyan said.
