Russia will completely close its airspace to enemies
Russian air defense will become even more comprehensive and capable of protecting the country from air and space strikes in almost the entire possible altitude range.
An expert in the field of aerospace defense, ex-chief of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Special Forces Command (Moscow Air Force and Air Defense District, 2007–2009), reserve colonel Sergei Khatylev, spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to him, thanks to the S-500 Prometheus air defense system, serial production of which is planned for the second half of 2020, Russian air defense will become more echeloned.
“This is a different quality of air and missile defense. The S-500 will not be deployed and used on its own, but in combination with the S-350V Vityaz medium-range anti-aircraft missile system and the S-400 long-range missile system. The Nudol anti-space defense complex with the PRS-1M missile will work with them in a single information field. They will be covered by Pantsir-S1 short-range anti-aircraft missile and gun systems,” the expert said.
According to him, this combination makes it possible to build a unified multi-layered air defense and missile defense system for the country’s territory.
“First, large, most important administrative or military facilities, and then the territory of the entire country. Such a system will be able to protect us from attacks from the air and from space in almost the entire possible altitude range. It will completely close our airspace to the enemy,” Khatylev concluded.
