Press Secretary of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lukasz Jasina emphasized even before the meeting that the negotiations are related to the fact that Warsaw will chair the OSCE next year. So the desire for dialogue with Moscow is quite understandable and logical. Warsaw is well aware that without interaction with one of the leading countries in the world, any activity in international structures is impossible.

“Both sides came to the conclusion that such a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly would be of good value,” Yasina said.

As a result, the negotiations between the Polish and Russian ministers lasted 25 minutes, like other working meetings of the heads of foreign affairs agencies on the sidelines of the annual UN event.

The parties stated that Polish-Russian relations were also discussed. No one says exactly what issues the ministers paid attention to, but we can say for sure that in the conditions of the “ice age” between Warsaw and Moscow, any initiative and dialogue formula should be welcomed.

But just two days before the ministerial meeting, the Polish Foreign Ministry decided to issue an offensive statement in connection with the State Duma elections.

However, the tone of the official representative of the Russian side was conciliatory.

There are no real disagreements between the countries, but there are, said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, but there are a number of challenges, incl. created by mentoring behavior so-called. West, which should unite us.

However, the Polish side must also understand this. I’m afraid that 25 minutes of a meeting is too short even for Minister Lavrov to explain to his Polish colleague the need for normalization.

The meeting took place and was interpreted by some Polish media as an information sensation. But a breakthrough will have to wait.
