Russia received an invitation to send observers to the Ukrainian elections
Russia has received an invitation from the OSCE to participate as observers in the presidential elections in Ukraine, which will take place in March this year.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference following a meeting with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, the Russian minister recalled that Ukraine refuses to allow observers with Russian passports to participate in the elections.
“As for their refusal to include observers from Russia in the OSCE mission that will monitor the elections in Ukraine, I think that the OSCE itself should speak out here. In particular, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the so-called ODIHR, which coordinates the election activities of the OSCE... We received an invitation from the OSCE to send our observers to a mission that will monitor the elections. So we have an invitation,” Lavrov said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Ingibjörg Solrun Gisladottir called on Kyiv to comply with its obligations before the organization in terms of election observation.
