Russia promised to complete the pipelines, despite US sanctions
Russia will complete the construction of new gas pipelines to Europe, bypassing Ukraine, despite the sanctions imposed the day before by the United States. This is stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, this is not about helping Europeans to have an uninterrupted supply of energy at reasonable prices, but about the desire to deprive them of guaranteed sources of such supply from Russia. Moreover, the desire to harm Russian exports is by no means the only or even the main thing. No less evident is the desire to impose American liquefied gas on Europe, which costs it much more than pipeline supplies from Russia, and thereby slow down the development of its economy and undermine its ability to compete with the United States in world markets. As a result, Europeans remain losers on all counts,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“For such purposes, the United States is going to impose sanctions not on Russian, but on European companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream pipelines.” Washington decided that for the sake of geopolitical ambitions and commercial gain, no one could be spared, not even the closest NATO partners.
Russia has implemented and will continue to implement its economic projects regardless of anyone’s sanctions. However, it will be interesting to see how truly sovereign the European countries are, from which, like Germany, today, in a commanding voice from Washington, they are demanding to meekly finance the US energy industry, forgetting about their own economic interests,” the Russian Foreign Ministry notes.
