“Russia is the last honest arbiter in the Balkans”
Russia is the last international player in the Balkans that respects and defends international law.
Serbian member of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik stated this in an interview with the SRNA portal, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia is the only international player in our region that adheres to international law and remains impartial. By all accounts, Russia supports the Serbs, but Russia also offered projects to the Croats and Bosnians, but they refused because they did not dare agree to such cooperation because of the position of the West,” Dodik said.
He also noted that this Russian behavior is encouraging for the Serbs because it means that “not everything is under the control of key Western players,” who, he said, “will interpret all legal norms as they see fit.”
He reiterated that the unification of all Serbs in one country should be the national idea of the Serbian people, and emphasized that the Republika Srpska still retains the right to a referendum.
“I will never stop saying that the Republika Srpska and the Serbian people have the right to a referendum on their status. However, we are not in the mood to do anything that may cause us more harm than good. We will vigorously fight for our status through political means,” Dodik said.
Let us recall that last week the Republika Srpska, which is an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina, achieved that country’s refusal to sign a plan to gain NATO membership.
