Russia will prioritize the extraction and reproduction of its raw materials
The extraction of natural resources forms the foundation of the Russian economy.
Natural Resources Minister Alexander Kozlov announced this today at a plenary meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Subsoil use is the foundation of the Russian economy. About 40% of the country's consolidated budget comes from revenues from the mineral resources complex. At the end of last year, the industry providing services in the field of mining grew by 17,6% - these are services ordered by subsoil users - drilling, seismic exploration, well testing, etc. Exploration and production is a growth point for most sectors of the economy and a driver of regional development,” Kozlov said.
As an example, he cited world-scale copper clusters in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Trans-Baikal Territory, which “will diversify the economies of these regions for decades.” Also, according to the minister, a nuclear power plant will be built in Yakutia to ensure gold production. The development of Chechnya is connected with hydrocarbon production.
Budget funding for geological exploration increased this year and amounted to 18,6 billion rubles. In addition, the technological capacities of institutes that carry out geological exploration are being updated by 12 billion rubles.
This year it is planned to search for hydrocarbons at 34 sites and solid minerals at 58 sites. Almost all mineral resources in Russia are reproduced. The increase in natural gas reserves is 1,5 trillion cubic meters with a production of 662 billion cubic meters, proven nickel reserves will increase by 912 thousand tons with a production of 307 thousand tons, gold - by 649 tons with a production of 430 tons. Incomplete reproduction of manganese, chromium, titanium, but there are sufficient reserves of these minerals.
“Our country should be the most secure in all mineral resources. We should not proceed from the point of view of “it is profitable or unprofitable”, but from the fact that it is simply necessary,” Kozlov concluded.
