Novosibirsk authorities are counting on the creation of thousands of new jobs thanks to the implementation of the “Akademgorodok 2.0” project, the creation of which was supported by President Vladimir Putin last year.

The Mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokot, stated this when delivering a report on the priorities of the city’s development, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The project involves the creation of a powerful modern scientific center, including about 30 objects; its implementation will become a driver for the development of not only Novosibirsk, but the entire region.

“The main project of the near future will be the development of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center as a territory with a high concentration of research and development - “Akademgorodok 2”... Today teenagers have a special motivation. The implementation of the Academy Town 2 projects means hundreds, perhaps even thousands of promising places in research projects, laboratories and scientific institutes. This is the future of our young Novosibirsk residents. The education system of Novosibirsk is determined to prepare personnel for the upcoming scientific and technological breakthrough,” Lokot said.

“Akademgorodok 2.0” is already called the Siberian analogue of “Skolkovo”; its creation is estimated at approximately 350 billion rubles. In Novosibirsk, it is planned to build new scientific centers, housing for employees, shops, schools, kindergartens and sports infrastructure.

As part of “Academy Town 2.0”, it is planned to create a Nanotechnology Center, an accelerator complex, a small-scale chemistry center, a biocenter, etc.

The implementation of large projects of “Academgorodok 2.0” will require a significant update of computing power, up to the creation of a supercomputer with a capacity of 200 petaflops, experts from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have already stated.

Not only domestic investors, such as Yandex, but also foreign investors, for example, the Chinese corporation Huawei, have already expressed their interest in participating.

“Supercomputing, new algorithms, and working with big data certainly require a high level of mathematics as such. We are also interested in advanced scientific ideas in the fields of photonics, the production of advanced materials, and laser systems,” said the head of the Huawei European Research Institute, Professor Zhou Hua, who previously visited Novosibirsk.
