Russia will build a second Crimean bridge
The authorities of Sevastopol showed an image of the future bridge that will be built across the city’s main bay. Governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov published the sketches on his Instagram.
The construction of a bridge in Sevastopol has been discussed since the times of the USSR, but in Ukraine its construction was unlikely due to the enormous costs.
The city is divided by a bay into the Northern and Southern parts. To get from one to the other, motorists need to travel tens of kilometers in a detour, or take a ferry.
According to Ovsyannikov, in accordance with the preliminary design, the 935-meter-long bridge will have 4 lanes for traffic with a maximum permitted speed of 70 km/h. It is also planned to create pedestrian and bicycle paths.
“We considered different routing options: both a tunnel and an overpass. The optimal option has been chosen, which also suits the military. The future bridge will be part of a transport corridor, including the planned “Herakleian Rockade” with access to Kamyshovoye and Kazachinskoye highways,” Ovsyannikov wrote.
Critics of the governor have already stated that the presentation of a new high-profile project may be an attempt to divert attention from the conflict with the hero of the Russian Spring, Alexei Chaly, and problems with the implementation of the Federal Target Program by local officials.
How fair this version is will be clear from the reaction of the federal center and Moscow’s readiness to finance the new “construction project of the century.”
